SÁPMI
Living Landscapes

A journey north turned into many.

Hiking, exploring, working, photographing; my partner Arne and I got to know these landscapes better - and ourselves as well. Vast and seemingly untouched, Arctic Europe has been the home of the Sami people and their reindeer herds for ages. And these last few years it’s become our part-time home too.

While we’ve grown attached to it, we’ve also become more aware of the threats and challenges it faces today.

Immersed in nature we slowed down. Harsh conditions matched with soft light and colourful skies. Always in transition, drastic changes between the spring-summer’s midnight sun and the midwinter polar nights make this a region of contrasts.

No matter the season, we found tranquility and freedom amidst this uniquely diverse environment we’ve come to love.

We hope you do too.

ROOM TO BREATHE

Youtube project together with Swedish Lapland TV

Hanneke and Arne set out on a journey to find out what it would be like to relocate to the north. One year later they are still enjoying life in eight seasons. And, en route, they have captured thousands of beautiful moments and found memories. Because, sometimes all you really need is room to breathe.
