Where The Reindeer Roam

With a fluffy winter coat, hairy noses, broad hooves and changing eyes; reindeer are perfectly adapted to the arctic. The clicking sound when they walk, the movement of their legs to uncover lichen in the snow, their antlers works of art - I can watch them for an eternity and still be mesmerized.

Always on their journey throughout the eight seasons, they inspire me on mine.
Appealing to many, thanks to Santa’s Rudolph, seeing the world through their eyes offers an interesting perspective to bring ecological challenges to the broader public.

Living and working part-time in arctic europe for the past years lead me to the photography project ‘Sápmi - Living Landscapes’ (book launch: 11/2025). I want to continue this journey with a project focused on Europe’s different reindeer subspecies, investigating the following questions:

What is the future of reindeer husbandry traditions?  How can we mitigate impact from climate change, mining, deforestation and Europe’s green transition? What about predators? Should there be wild reindeer herds in Sweden and Finland too, linked to rewilding initiatives?

What is the situation of the wild reindeer populations in Norway? What about Svalbard? And the elusive forest reindeer?
